Clearlight®, Perspire Sauna Studio and HigherDOSE to Support Firefighters in California with Donated Infrared Sauna Sessions and Sauna Blankets

Leading Wellness Partners Bring Detoxifying Power of Infrared Therapy To First Responders

BERKELEY, CA., – January 21, 2025– In support of our heroes on the frontlines and in response to the devastating wildfires in Southern California, Clearlight®, the industry leader in infrared saunas and a pioneer in innovative health, Perspire Sauna Studio, the country’s largest full-spectrum infrared (IR) and red-light (RL) sauna therapy franchise, and HigherDOSE, the innovative at-home wellness technology brand, are providing much-needed wellness support to first responders battling the blazes. Through a donation of infrared sauna sessions and refurbished infrared sauna blankets, these leading wellness companies are expanding their long-standing partnerships to provide assistance to men and women currently fighting the fires.

Infrared saunas and blankets, which people report to be helpful in reducing stress, may play a critical role in helping firefighters who are exposed to harmful chemicals and toxins while fighting the wildfires. Infrared sessions support the body’s natural healing process by helping to rid itself of accumulated toxins.

“Firefighters face incredible physical and mental strain, especially during these unprecedented California wildfires. The chemicals and dangerous toxicants absorbed by their bodies pose a serious risk to their health and long-term well-being,” said Dr. Raleigh Duncan, founder and CEO at Clearlight. “We’re honored to support firefighters and hope they will find healing, restoration and recovery through the infrared sessions.”

The goal of this effort is to ensure that firefighters in the hardest-hit areas have easy access to recovery.

  • Perspire Sauna Studio and Clearlight are providing access to sauna sessions in the proprietary infrared saunas designed by Clearlight at various Perspire locations throughout California.
  • One free session will be available to eligible firefighters to ensure they get the full detox benefits of infrared therapy.
  • HigherDOSE will donate 50 of their infrared sauna blankets, developed in partnership with Clearlight, to provide those battling the fires with the detoxifying benefits of an infrared sauna in the portable blankets.

”We’ve seen firsthand how infrared sessions can help firefighters manage the physical demands of their work, and we’re proud to collaborate with Clearlight and HigherDOSE on this initiative,” said Perspire Sauna Studio Founder and CEO Lee Braun.  “With fires still raging, this is a moment for our companies to step up together and show the support our firefighters deserve. The wellness of our SoCal community is our priority, and this effort is a natural fit for us.”

“We’re deeply honored to partner with Perspire Sauna Studio and Clearlight to help heal our heroes. Firefighters put their lives on the line for our safety, and providing them with the restorative power of infrared therapy is a small but meaningful way to support their recovery after the immense challenges of the LA fires,” said Lauren Berlingeri, Co-Founder and Co-CEO, HigherDOSE.

Dr. Raleigh added: “Clearlight, Perspire and HigherDose are committed to supporting firefighters, not just during this current time of crisis, but as part of an ongoing effort to ensure their overall, long-term health.”

The trio of wellness brands are working on a number of initiatives that support individual firefighters, crews, retrofitting fire stations and conducting scientific research for their long term wellness. UCSF is currently using the Clearlight Curve® Far Infrared Sauna Dome to study whether infrared heating can promote the detoxification of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, heavy metals, and mycotoxins.  Perspire has previously donated infrared sauna units to fire halls in both Orange County, California and Florida to aid in recovery. HigherDOSE has previously donated infrared sauna blankets to NYFD. Clearlight and HigherDOSE also offer special pricing for first responders and those who go the extra mile in their jobs via the ID.me program. Visit: Clearlight’s First Responder ID.ME program and HigherDOSE ID.ME page.

The team effort by Clearlight, Perspire and HigherDose comes at a time when local and California state officials, including Governor Gavin Newsom, have been present on the ground and vocal in their support of emergency responders, with plans for long-term recovery efforts.

Best Design: Clearlight Full-Spectrum Infrared Sauna & Best for Smaller Spaces: Clearlight The Curve Sauna Dome

Our expert-approved picks are effective, easy to use, and high-quality.

“The aesthetics are where this sauna shines in my opinion. The exterior is a beautiful mahogany and the entire front of the sauna and part of the ceiling are made of glass. There are “outside” lights that provide beautiful downlighting accents on the exterior as well as uplighting accents on the interior.”

“…I could feel my entire body relaxing and easing into sleep after each use. Some nights, I almost fell asleep in the sauna because I was in such a blissful state.”

Best With Light Therapy: Clearlight Full-Spectrum Infrared Sauna

For starters, the sauna boasts gorgeous craftsmanship paired with a glass skylight ceiling, a thick glass door, and double-pane windows. It also features a Bluetooth sound system that can be controlled by your phone or smart device, as well as a built-in charging station for your phone or tablet.

In terms of comfort, you’ll appreciate the built-in backrest, as well as the reversible bench that’s flat on one side and ergonomic on the other. There’s even a space built into the door handles to set your tablet, so you won’t have to hold it the whole time you’re in the sauna.

Get Well, Be Well

A cedar closet had served as overflow wardrobe storage, but the new walk-in closet rendered it redundant. The clients asked that this soothing retreat take its place. “Saunas are a beautiful thing, covered in wood. They exude relaxation,” Goldbach said. The couple’s Clearlight Infrared Sanctuary Sauna sits steps from an adjacent fitness room. “They’ve traveled a lot and experienced lovely accommodations and spas around the world,” Goldbach said of the couple. “It’s just a little bit of that for them to have at home.”

How a Pair of Empty-Nesters Created Their Dream Home

With the kids out of the house, a Chicago couple who love to entertain splashed out their home with color, pattern and sumptuousness. One long-desired priority: a walk-in closet and dressing room.

By Elizabeth Sweet, April 24, 2024 at 12:46 pm ET

THE NAP OF LUXURY The ‘adulting’ of the Chicago apartment, by local firm En Masse Architecture & Design, included an upholstery upgrade to velvet in the living room.

“THEY JUST WANTED what they wanted,” said designer Lucas Goldbach of the Chicago couple whose apartment he helped transform into their version of empty-nester nirvana. The pair—he in finance, she in fashion—had lived in their seventh-floor home for 25 years and renovated twice, most recently while raising kids.

Now on their own, the well-traveled, adventuresome duo wanted to lean into pattern mixing and to paint walls gutsier colors, recalls Goldbach, a member of Chicago’s En Masse Architecture and Design, who devised the plan with founding partner Mike Shively. No longer wary of grape-juice stains and roughhousing, the homeowners could indulge in luxe fabrics like velvet and linen, and asked for decor that would charm the guests they frequently entertain.

A homework room off the kitchen became a cozy dining niche; a cedar closet, a sauna. To create the walk-in wardrobe the wife had imagined for years, they stole footage from a college-age son’s bedroom. “She is known among friends as a stylish person,” Goldbach said. To celebrate the dressing area’s completion, the couple threw a reveal party.

Today, the once practical, family-focused home is maximized for dressing up, hosting and enjoying life. Here, how design helped it reflect the personalities of its liberated owners.

Don’t Blow Out the Kitchen

When the couple was caught up in busy family life, their kitchen’s aesthetic was not a priority. Red-and-white checkerboard cork floors and white cabinets sufficed. The current renovation honors the building’s 1920s pedigree, with dark-grouted subway tile and a classic checkerboard floor. The period-proper black-and-white palette offers a reprieve

from the rest of the apartment’s rambunctious color. As another nod to the kitchen’s art deco vintage, Goldbach and team rejected an open plan, repeating arches and transoms found elsewhere in the home. “The clients still have guests crowding into the space when entertaining,” said Goldbach, “which is part of the fun of having folks over.”

Bang Out a Banquette

The study area off the kitchen became a high-design breakfast nook. Scalamandre’s geometric Amazink Velvet on the banquette and lively floral Yokata Bleu wallpaper share enough color that their energetic patterns mesh. The decor here and in the exuberant walk-

in closet, the first decorating schemes to be completed, set the tone for the rest of the apartment. “Those spaces had so much richness,” said Goldbach, “and the clients were like, ‘Oh, now that I see I could do it here, I want it everywhere.’ ”

Enliven the Living Room

A formal entertaining room once painted a subdued blue-gray, the parlor needed vibrancy now that it’s used more often. “They find reasons to celebrate,” said Goldbach of the couple. The new wall color, Benjamin Moore’s Fort Pierce Green, energized the space. “The previous iteration did not have the same level of richness,” said the designer. He kept the furniture layout intact but dialed up the level of saturation and pattern mixing, with assists from upholstery in punchy Fabricut textiles and an emerald Chinese art deco rug from 1stDibs.

Dress Up the Closet

Goldbach describes the wife as a “very bold, very confident dresser.” Fittingly, as a jumping-off point for her dream closet’s palette, she was drawn to Mary Katrantzou’s unrestrained Botanical Paradise Rug from the Rug Company. A citrine window seat and a Roman shade in a bubbly Voutsa print play supporting roles. Benjamin Moore’s Franklin White, a subtle peachy-pink, coats the walls and cabinets. “In a closet, you need a color that doesn’t affect how you look in the clothes you’re trying on,” said Goldbach. The shade delivers “a bouncing glow on the skin.”

Let Color Clothe You

The couple’s new dressing room, which claimed square footage from a closet, a hallway and their son’s bedroom, gave the husband more wardrobe storage, too. It also makes the pair’s bedroom suite an experience, says Goldbach, who notes that the wife “loves when rooms envelope you in a color.” Doing the job here: Benjamin Moore’s Regent Green on the cabinetry and the ceiling’s venetian-plaster coating. The same fabric found in the Roman shade of the wife’s walk-in closet reappears here as contents-concealing curtains.

Gussy Up the Guest Room

Goldbach and his team updated an existing guest room to suit visitors and their son (whose room became the new closet) when he is in town. Artwork and a zebra rug from his old digs make the son feel at home, but in the sophisticated context of a plaid, menswear-inspired wall covering by Phillip Jeffries, luxe bedding and midcentury Lane night tables, his pieces “live in a more grown-up way,” said Goldbach.

Lo Bosworth is among the increasing number of Americans who are prioritizing wellness spaces, amenities, and accents in their own homes.

Bosworth, founder of the beauty brand Love Wellnesstechnically has a home office in her New York City apartment. But, more often than not, she found herself working from her kitchen table, preferring the airier space over the closed-off room whose classification was rooted more in realtor-speak than reality. And since this is New York City, where every square foot is a precious (and pricey) one, Bosworth was determined not to let the “office” go to waste. After months of deliberation, she installed a Clearlight Infrared sauna and covered the rest of the room in gym flooring ordered off of Amazon. Now, she uses the space almost daily, either for a dry heat session or for streaming an online workout class. “I have some metal toxicity and residual Epstein-Barr I’m working on, and an infrared sweat helps to detoxify the body, especially for anyone dealing with any kind of autoimmune issue,” she says of her choice. “I converted the space that got no use into one I use frequently.”

MY MONDAY MORNING

“The infrared sauna is next in my game-day routine, usually 15 minutes. During that time, I’m usually listening to reggae music.”

How Devin Booker’s Life Was Changed by Kobe Bryant

The NBA guard, who chugs a glass of water every morning and always brings a Diptyque candle on the road, says this is the year for a Phoenix Suns championship.

By Lane Florsheim Photography by Lyndon French for WSJ. Magazine Updated March 8, 2022 11:04 am ET

page1image1961344

Breakfast, especially on Mondays, is when Devin Booker gets organized. Over a smoothie and a plate of pancakes, eggs and greens prepared by his private chef, the Phoenix Suns guard, 25, reads an email from his agent/business partner containing everything he has to do for the week. On the days he doesn’t have a basketball game, he takes meetings for his businesses, which include the sports drink company Coco5 he co-owns and several startups in which he’s invested. Game days, on the other hand, are scheduled with practices and routines from the minute Booker wakes up in the morning until after the game, when he usually does a heavier workout than he did leading up to it. “The reasoning behind that is to work while your body is already fatigued,” he says. “I like to train when my body is at that level.”

Booker was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he grew up with his mom, Veronica Gutierrez, and two siblings until high school, when he moved to Moss Point, Mississippi, to live with his dad, Melvin Booker. Melvin, a former NBA player who had been playing overseas, became a mentor to his son. Booker went to the University of Kentucky in 2014 and left after one season at age 18 after being drafted by the Suns in the first round. Three years later, he became the youngest player in NBA history to score at least 60 points in a game. (He scored 70 against the Boston Celtics.) In 2018, he signed the largest deal in the Suns’ franchise history, worth $158 million over five years, and last year, he and teammate Chris Paul led the Suns to the NBA Finals, where they lost to the Milwaukee Bucks.

Off the court, Booker—who goes by DBook or simply Book—is also known for his romantic relationship with Kendall Jenner. Here, he takes WSJ. through a typical Monday game day.

page1image1950816

The NBA star has been in the spotlight for his romantic relationship with model Kendall Jenner. He’s used to it, he says. “I’m in a good place right now.”

What time do you get up on Mondays, and what’s the first thing you do?

We really don’t do days of the week in the NBA. We do game days, we do practice days, and we do travel days. [On a] Monday game day, 8 a.m. wake-up is usually my time. The first thing I do is chug water. That’s something I’ve been doing for a long time. I feel like it gets me going. [Then] 8:30 a.m. breakfast.

Then what comes next?

We have a shootaround at 10 a.m., which is like game-day prep. We go in there and we go over the plays of what ever team we’re playing against that day and just get a few shots up, get the blood flowing early in the morning. That’s usually an hour, from 10 to 11. Around 11:30, I get on my LightStim bed. It’s an infrared light bed. I sit on that for usually 40 minutes: 20 on my back, 20 on my face. The infrared sauna is next in my game-day routine, usually 15 minutes. During that time, I’m usually listening to reggae music. Then right at noon is what we call my pre-game snack. It’s usually something lighter, just try to get some fuel in the body before I go play. After my snack, it’s a one-hour nap. I’ll turn everything off in my room, light a candle and sit in the bed and try focusing on my breathing and separating myself from the madness that’s been going on that day.

That sounds restorative.

It’s why I love game days, getting the hour right there. After that I get my coffee and start my shower, which is when I switch from reggae music, and now I’m getting ready for the game. The music’s a little more aggressive. I do my pre- game meal at 4 o’clock, usually three hours before the game. I usually get to the arena two hours before the game. Right when I get there I hop on table work: activation treatment, good stretching, making sure everything in your body is moving right. Then I do 15 minutes of an actual lift with some real weights to get the body ready. Six o’clock, the hour before the game, is my court time when I go out and get shots up. We’ll do our team meeting at 6:20, and then we run out as a team at 6:40 and we do 20 minutes of warmups out on the court before the game.

Are you one of those “four hours a night is all I need” people with sleep, or do you need a minimum to recharge?

I try to get eight. But it varies. No less than five though. My problem is I play videogames very late at night, so that usually cuts into my sleep time. I’m usually asleep at 1, wake up at 8.

Do you take any vitamins?

I do. They’re tailored to me, prescribed by our team: just an advanced probiotic, vitamin C packs, and that’s pretty much it. Vitamin D once a week.

What do you do to pump yourself up ahead of games? Do you have any superstitions?

Usually music. I block everything out on the outside and really just focus on the task at hand. That’s the biggest thing about my routine, trying to stay focused

Preparations on game day require a mix of nutrition, physical warm-ups and mental fortitude. “I block everything out on the outside and really just focus on the task at hand,” says Booker.

Have you learned any life hacks being on the road so much—packing secrets, keys to a great sleep?

I use a Barefoot Dreams blanket. I don’t want to sound like a little kid, but I have a consistent blanket I bring with me on the road. I travel with sage and a Diptyque candle everywhere I go, so I’m kind of getting my home vibe on the road. And I bring a gaming laptop; it’s easy access to connect with my friends.

page2image1315872

You’ve also become an investor and businessperson in the past few years. Who do you turn to for business advice? Do you have a mentor?

Jim Reynolds—he’s an uncle of mine, a private banker out of Chicago who owns a company called Loop Capital—put me in touch with Magic Johnson, who’s been a great entrepreneur to follow, especially as someone who’s been in my shoes and been in the NBA and understands the business of this league. I’ve had a lot of older teammates I’ve been inspired by, Chris Paul being one of the current ones and Tyson Chandler being one of the good vets for me in the past.

How are you feeling about a Suns championship this year?

It’s time. I think everybody on our team has the same goal and is on the same mission, especially after a deep playoff run last year and a heartbreak loss in the finals. We’re not trying to have that feeling again.

What makes you feel productive?

A clean space, when my room is locked in. That’s my therapy, too, sitting in my closet and organizing and going through drawers and making sure I know where everything is.

You’re in the public eye as an athlete but also because you’re dating Kendall Jenner; is it hard having the spotlight on both your professional and private life?

I wouldn’t say hard. Honestly, I’m enjoying life to the fullest, and that came off my tongue so easily because it wasn’t always this way, but I feel like I’m in a good place right now. I love my family, I love the people around me, and I love the impact that I get to have on this world, the younger generation under me and the kids who look up to me.

What’s one piece of advice you’ve gotten that’s guided you?

“Be legendary,” the advice that Kobe had left me with in the short time I got to spend with him in our last game playing against each other. He left it with a mark on my shoe and he wrote it out, Be legendary. And not only did he write it on the shoe and sign it for me, but just talking me through it and talking through the steps that it’s going to take to get there. Kobe’s always been an inspiration, so hearing it in his voice and seeing it in his handwriting on the shoes keeps me motivated.

And you got it tattooed too, right?

My first tattoo. Any glimpse I can see of it, any photo where I look and I’m shooting the ball and I see it, it’s a perfect reminder for me.
